Travelstache About Me

I’m Scott Joseph, a native of Michigan, but now the road is my home.

After a study abroad trip to Australia in 2009, I decided to live my life more adventurously, with freedom to work less and live more.

I got a van, sold everything and left Michigan to explore my interests and the world.

This was going to be my new life.

As I took off traveling around the globe and began sharing my experiences with friends and family, I became the trusted source for vacation and adventure advice within my circle of friends. I realized the insights I was sharing were also helpful for people outside of my immediate circle, and at that point decided to dedicate time to turning Travelstache into a trusted source for unique and interesting insights into traveling to the corners of the world on a budget. I now spend my time helping people like you make their dream trip a reality by breaking down the nitty gritty details of putting a life-changing trip together that you’ll remember for a lifetime.

Why the name TRAVELSTACHE? It’s not just because of my big mustache… Read the story here: How I Climbed a Mountain in Patagonia and Named It

THEN: I studied accounting. I wore a suit. I sat in front of a computer. I got drunk with my friends on the weekends… It’s all sort of a blur.

Something was missing. I didn’t feel right about my life. I didn’t enjoy doing the same thing day in, day out. Time was flying by. I saw the path I was on and knew where it was going. Graduate. Job. House. Marriage. Kids. Work. Save. Retire. Die.

I couldn’t accept that as my fate. I wanted to do things differently.

I began dreaming of traveling. Dreaming of adventure. Dreaming of exploring the unknown.

I’m living life one adventure at a time. I go where I want, when I want. I’ve never felt more free and love every moment of it.

It’s been over 7 years since I left Michigan. I’ve been through 70 different countries on 6 continents.

I’m currently traveling on the savings I have from my previous job working for an adventure travel company, where I was a guide and logistics director.

I have dreams of guiding trips of my own. For now I enjoy sharing my experiences here to help guide anyone that’s looking for guidance to take an adventure of their own, whether it be in your own backyard, or a trek across the globe.
